DESCRIPTION

EUPHAM module is highly specialized training course on EU public health in the era of increased global public health dangers and migration crisis. As patterns of migratory movement alter, the impacts on physical and mental well-being become great, both among the migrant community, but also the host/transit state. The effects which a migration crisis may have on local public health policies in the host or transit country are even greater in cases in which a specific state lacks integrated public health policies which are not aligned with EU standards. Countering such inconsistencies is a special challenge for the states of the Western Balkans where local health policies are not aligned with specific EU standards and strategies in the field of public health and health protection of migrants.

The aim of EUPHAM module is to analyze the interplay between EU public health policies and global migration. The module is addressed to students – bachelor, master and PhD candidates of political science, public policy, migration studies and medicine, but also interested stakeholders, namely public health officials, civil society workers and policy makers who are entering the profession in public health protection, work with vulnerable groups (notably migrants) or are interested in acquiring more knowledge about the topic.

With this project we aim to bring professional skills and theoretical knowledge in the area of Public health in connection to the migration processes that are very current, close to policies and organisational principles close to those in EU.

Knowledge acquired in this training course will create possibilities for lifelong learning, improve education-research –innovation triangle, create international openness, allow students and overall academic and professional mobility, better data collection, stimulate development of the multidimensional transparency tools and improve access to funding. With this projects we aim to contribute to the overall idea of lifelong learning and modernisation of a current programs.

GOALS

The EUPHAM module has a strategic objective of engaging higher education students from the area of social sciences and medicine, but also civil society workers and policy makers – into the subject of EU public health protection of migrants. By establishing the module, students who are not traditionally involved in public policy making (medical students) will be able to thrive working at the junction of political science and public health.

The project also has the following specific objectives:

·         to significantly strengthen the offered curriculum at SSST, especially for political science and/or medical students, by offering an EU-health policy course with a specific focus on migrant health and;

·         to contribute to better academic, professional and media coverage of the new challenges presented with the migration crisis and Covid-19 pandemic in terms of offering knowledge on EU health policy standards and their specific application and meaning for migrants’ health protection in the European Union.

·         To offer the knowledge and skills in addressing importance of universal health care for migrants with focus on evidence-based and inclusive policies.

·         To create a hub of knowledge that would provide important education about global health with focus on migrations, and impact of knowledge, habits, and attitudes in migrant population on disease prevention.

·         To offer information and models for decision makers.
